Sunil Gavaskar, a batting legend, has dubbed Mahendra Singh Dhoni the best captain in Indian Premier League history. Gavaskar, who played 125 Tests and 108 ODIs for India between 1971 and 1987, praised CSK captain Dhoni, saying “There hasn’t been a captain like him and there will never be one like him in the future.”
Dhoni reached 200 matches as CSK captain on April 12 against Rajasthan Royals in Chennai, which they lost by three runs.
The 41-year-old former India captain was the first player in IPL history to accomplish the feat.
Dhoni has been with CSK since the start of the IPL, with the exception of the two years (2016-17) when the team was suspended due to the involvement of their officials in illegal activities. In the 2016 season, he led the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants in 14 matches, bringing his total number of matches as captain to 214.
CSK has won the IPL four times under Dhoni’s leadership. Until the match against RR on April 12, his record as CSK captain was 120 wins, 79 losses, and one no result.
Gavaskar also lauded star batter Virat Kohli for helping Royal Challengers Bangalore get off to a fast start this season.
“Virat Kohli is giving the Royal Challengers Bangalore a flying start at the start of the innings.” He deserves a lot of credit for the starts RCB is getting, as well as the runs the team is putting up as a result of his starts. “These are encouraging signs for RCB.”
