On Saturday, the BCCI provided medical updates for India pacer Jasprit Bumrah and batter Shreyas Iyer. Both cricketers have been out of action for some time due to back injuries. Bumrah, who had lower back surgery in New Zealand, began his rehabilitation on Friday at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
“In New Zealand, Jasprit Bumrah underwent successful surgery on his lower back, and he is now pain-free.” “The fast bowler was advised by the specialist to begin his rehab six weeks after surgery and accordingly,” said the BCCI.
There has been no word on Bumrah’s whereabouts. According to reports, he has no chance of playing in the WTC final against Australia in July, but he is in a race against time to be fit for the ODI World Cup in India this October-November.
Shreyas Iyer, on the other hand, aggravated his back injury against Australia during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The injury forced him to miss the IPL 2023. He is also unlikely to compete in the WTC final.
“Shreyas Iyer is scheduled to have surgery next week for a lower back problem.” He will be under the surgeon’s care for two weeks before returning to the NCA for rehabilitation,” BCCI added.
