Following the removal of the national flag from outside the building by Khalistani supporters in protest of the crackdown on Amritpal Singh, a massive Tricolour now adorns the Indian High Commission building in London.
Social media users praised the action after seeing a photo of the enormous national flag draped across India House in London’s Aldwych.
Jaiveer Shergill, the national spokesperson for the BJP, posted the image on Twitter along with the caption, “Jhanda Ooncha Rahe Hamara”—the UK government must take action against the miscreants who tried to disrespect the Indian flag at the High Commission in London.
Punjab and Punjabis have a distinguished history of protecting and serving the country. A handful of jumping jacks in the United Kingdom do not represent Punjab.”
Images of a Khalistani supporter tearing down the national flag enraged the country and elicited strong reactions on social media. Many praised a High Commission official who was seen throwing the Khalistan flag out.
After videos of the Indian flag being pulled down circulated online, the External Affairs Ministry summoned British constable Christina Scott late Sunday evening.
The ministry deemed the UK government’s “indifference” towards Indian diplomats and staff to be “unacceptable” and demanded an explanation for the “absence of security” at the high commission’s premises.
The attack on the Indian High Commission has left Lord Tariq Ahmed, the UK’s Minister of State for Foreign Commonwealth & Development Affairs, “appalled,” according to a tweet he posted.
“I’m horrified by the assault on the Indian High Commission in London today. The integrity of the Mission and its staff have been violated by this utterly unacceptable action. The security of the Indian High Commission will always be taken seriously by the UK government “He said it.
