FUME
In recent years, India has witnessed an alarming surge in metabolic disorders. Conditions such as Type 2 Diabetes, Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, and thyroid dysfunction are increasingly common across urban populations. Yet many individuals only discover these conditions after years of “normal” health reports.
A Bengaluru-based metabolic health company, FUME Fit also known as Fix Underlying Metabolic Errors is attempting to challenge this pattern. Founded in 2020, the platform focuses on identifying and addressing the root biological drivers of Metabolic disorders rather than simply managing symptoms.
By combining advanced diagnostics such as metabolic blood panels, genetic screening, gut microbiome analysis, and continuous glucose monitoring, FUME aims to redefine how preventive wellness is practiced in India.
The Hidden Gap in Standard Health Checkups
Consider a scenario that is becoming increasingly common.
A senior operations manager in Pune undergoes his annual corporate health checkup. His reports show normal readings across typical markers Fasting glucose, cholesterol, thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), liver function, and kidney function. Doctors assure him that everything looks fine.
Yet within a few years, he is diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes and later develops hypertension.
The issue was not necessarily medical oversight; rather, the tests themselves did not examine deeper metabolic indicators.
According to Jagannath Das, co-founder and director of FUME:
“A standard health checkup tests a handful of basic markers. We analyse more than 85 metabolic blood markers, evaluate genetic risks across 200 health conditions, study the gut microbiome, and track real-time glucose responses. The difference is like reading a car dashboard versus opening the engine.”
This philosophy lies at the core of FUME’s preventive health approach.
The Founders’ Personal Health Transformations
The origins of FUME are closely tied to the personal health journeys of its founders.

Jagannath Das
Before founding the company, Jagannath Das spent nearly two decades working in leadership roles at global corporations such as Samsung, Bosch, and Aptiv.
By his late thirties, despite seemingly normal annual health reports, he experienced persistent fatigue, visceral fat accumulation, and declining metabolic health.
Traditional medical advice often limited to Generic recommendations such as dieting and exercise failed to address the underlying issues. His exploration of functional medicine and root-cause diagnostics led to a complete metabolic transformation, including significant weight loss and improved energy levels.
This personal experience ultimately inspired him to leave the corporate sector and co-found FUME.
Dr. Uma Mittal
The clinical backbone of the company comes from Dr. Uma Mittal, co-founder and Chief Metabolic Health Officer.
With certifications from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York, Precision Nutrition, and National Academy of Sports Medicine, along with advanced training in functional medicine and clinical nutrition, she brings extensive expertise in hormonal health and metabolic disorders.
Her interest in root-cause medicine also emerged from personal experience. After struggling with hormonal and metabolic issues that conventional treatments only managed temporarily, she applied functional medicine strategies to restore her own health.
Together, the founders lost a combined 36 kilograms and reversed key metabolic risk factors—an experience that became the foundation for FUME’s methodology.
The Bio-Intelligence System: Data-Driven Preventive Health
At the centre of FUME’s approach is the Bio-Intelligence System™, a diagnostic framework designed to examine multiple interconnected biological systems before any intervention is recommended.
Unlike conventional wellness programs that begin with diet plans or exercise routines, FUME starts with detailed physiological data.
The system incorporates:
- 85+ metabolic blood markers
- Genetic screening across 200+ health conditions
- Gut microbiome profiling
- Hormonal health panels
- Continuous glucose monitoring
- Body composition analysis
- Lifestyle stress evaluation
- Longevity and biological age indicators
These assessments allow practitioners to identify metabolic drivers such as insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, hormonal imbalances, or gut dysbiosis.
Key Diagnostic Pillars
Genetic and Epigenetic Analysis
Using saliva-based DNA testing, the platform evaluates genetic predispositions across numerous health categories, including cardiovascular risk, nutrition metabolism, autoimmune tendencies, and drug response.
Gut Microbiome Assessment
Microbial diversity within the gut can influence fat storage, hormone regulation, immune function, and thyroid conversion.
Advanced Metabolic Panels
Markers such as insulin resistance indicators, inflammatory markers, and micronutrient levels often absent from standard checkups are included.
Hormonal Evaluation
Instead of relying solely on TSH, comprehensive thyroid and hormonal panels are examined.
Continuous Glucose Monitoring
Real-time glucose tracking reveals how different foods affect blood sugar levels throughout the day.
According to Das:
“Most health programs guess. We measure. That difference fundamentally changes the outcome.”
Who Uses the Platform
FUME primarily serves professionals and entrepreneurs aged between 35 and 65—individuals who have often tried multiple health strategies without long-term results.
Common conditions addressed include:
- Type 2 Diabetes and prediabetes
- Hashimoto’s thyroiditis and other thyroid disorders
- Polycystic Ovary Syndrome
- weight-loss resistance and visceral fat accumulation
- infertility linked to metabolic or hormonal imbalance
- chronic fatigue and digestive issues
The company reports serving more than 15,000 clients across over 200 cities in India, with additional clients in the UAE, United States, United Kingdom, and Australia.
Its programs typically run between six months and a year, offering personalized protocols, ongoing coaching, and periodic diagnostic re-testing.
Building a New Category: Diagnostic-Driven Preventive Wellness
FUME positions itself within a space between conventional healthcare and general wellness programs.
Traditional healthcare often focuses on treating diseases once they appear. Meanwhile, much of the wellness industry relies on generalized advice such as diet trends or fitness routines.
FUME describes its model as “Metabolic Decoding.”
The concept involves analysing multiple biological systems to determine the root drivers of metabolic dysfunction before recommending lifestyle or nutritional interventions.
As Dr. Uma Mittal explains:
“Conventional medicine asks what is wrong and prescribes treatment. We ask why it is wrong and address the underlying causes. Both questions are important, but the second one is often overlooked.”
Institution-First Branding
Unlike many wellness companies that rely heavily on personal branding, FUME has deliberately adopted an institution-focused identity.
While the founders remain visible leaders, the company emphasizes its systems, diagnostic frameworks, and clinical team rather than a single practitioner.
This approach also supports scalability, allowing the organization to expand services across geographies and introduce additional specialists without depending on one individual’s reputation.
Expansion and Future Plans
FUME is increasingly focusing on global Indian communities, particularly professionals in the UAE, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
Many non-resident Indians seek metabolic health support that aligns with Indian dietary habits and genetic predispositions areas where Western wellness frameworks often fall short.
The company is also investing in educational content through social media, webinars, and its digital platform to improve public understanding of metabolic health.
A Shift in Preventive Healthcare
India is facing what many experts describe as a metabolic health crisis. Rapid lifestyle changes, urban work patterns, and dietary shifts have contributed to rising rates of obesity, insulin resistance, and hormonal disorders.
In this environment, companies like FUME are exploring a different approach—one built on detailed diagnostics and personalized metabolic analysis.
Whether this model becomes a broader healthcare trend remains to be seen. However, the platform’s growing client base suggests that many individuals are increasingly interested in preventive health strategies that go beyond standard blood tests.
If preventive wellness is to evolve in the coming decades, FUME’s approach suggests that the future may lie not in generic advice but in decoding the body first, and intervening second.
