New Delhi: In a landmark recognition of artistic excellence, renowned Santoor virtuoso Dr. Bipul Kumar Ray has been conferred the prestigious ‘Top Grade’ by All India Radio and Doordarshan, New Delhi placing him among the most distinguished classical musicians of the country.
Dr. Ray stands as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary Indian classical music a Distinguished Santoor exponent, composer, educator, and cultural ambassador. His career, shaped by unwavering dedication, discipline, and artistic brilliance, represents a rare confluence of tradition and innovation.
A senior disciple of the legendary Padmashri Pandit Bhajan Sopori, Dr. Ray carries forward a rich musical lineage that transformed the Santoor into a respected solo classical instrument. His performances are celebrated for their lyrical grace, rhythmic sophistication, and spiritual depth, creating a profound emotional resonance with audiences. From intimate raga elaborations to grand festival stages, his music becomes a medium of Storytelling evoking devotion, heritage, and human emotion.
Equally distinguished in academia, Dr. Ray holds a Master’s degree and M.Phil. in Classical Vocal Music, along with a Doctorate in Santoor from the University of Delhi. His scholarly work has contributed significantly to the Academic recognition of the Santoor in Hindustani classical music. As the founder of the Raganjali Academy of Performing Arts, he continues to Mentor young artists and promote India’s cultural heritage.
A global cultural ambassador, Dr. Ray has presented Indian classical music across continents, performing in countries including Egypt, Venezuela, Peru, Qatar, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Russia, China, Thailand, and Sri Lanka.
