Delhi’s live music circuit saw a unique performance on March 15 at The Grid Rooms in Hauz Khas, New Delhi by JustajooThe Music Band. The concert drew listeners who enjoy music that blends emotion, poetry, and classical sound. The event, titled “Justajoo Live in Concert,” was more than a routine stage show and it generated music that invites reflection and emotional connection.
Music That Speaks to the Modern Listener
The idea behind every composition performed by the band during the concert was a take on modern life and society, sense of isolation, purpose, violence, identity transformations, and sense of longing. The songs performed spoke aboutlonging, personal growth, and the search for meaning in everyday life. Through lyrics and melody, the group touched on moments of restlessness, confusion, and self-questioning that come with life in a fast digital era. Instead of offering quick answers, the band’s compositions invited listeners to pause and reflect. In doing so, Justajoo’s performance positioned the performance somewhere between entertainment and artistic expression.
The Vision Behind Justajoo
Justajoo was founded by Dr. Anandajit Goswami and Divyam Gaur. The performance also included Ranajoy and Ishan from the band. Both creators share a deep interest in music as a tool for emotional expression and personal reflection. Their collaboration began with the idea that music could help people reconnect with their inner thoughts and feelings.Himangshu from Justajoo did the sound production of the show. Together, the group presented a cohesive performance that reflected their original vision.
Rather than focusing only on performance, the founders wanted to shape a musical project that could explore themes of identity, love, longing, and spiritual curiosity. Over time, this idea grew into a band that blends storytelling with layered sound.
The performance highlighted all of the above and alsoreflected influences from different traditions. Indian classical elements appeared alongside modern instrumentation. The result was a style that respects tradition while still feeling current and touched the chords of the audience which included the eminent presence of Shri Pradeep Mohanty, Registrar, NSD and Smt. Malavika Joshi, the famous story teller and artist.
A Blend of Classical Roots and Modern Sound
Musically, Justajoo’s performance of 15th March occupied a space that mixes classical Indian structures with contemporary sound design. The audience heard elements of raga-based melodies, modern fusion arrangements, and touches of rock instrumentation through their compositions Maati, Dhulokona, Jacquilin, Fanaa.
The performance sound was both familiar and new, with emotional depth, while guitars and rhythm sections addedmovement and energy. The band uses this mix to build songs that move between quiet reflection and strong musical peaks.
For audiences, the performance structure created a listening experience that evolved throughout a performance. Soft melodies opened a track, while layered instrumentation builtintensity as the performance progressed.
The classical elements with rock created a layered sound that shifts across emotional tones. The performance featured controlled melodies that gradually evolved into stronger instrumentation. Rock guitar lines merged with classical vocal phrasing, creating a bridge between two musical worlds. The result was a performance that took the audience through a range of emotions. The performance was reflective, intense, and meditative at different points at The Grid Rooms in Hauz Khas, an area known for its mix of art, nightlife, and independent music venues. The location which hosts small to mid-size cultural events that bring performers and audiences closer together was a perfect entry point of reflection through Justajoo’s musical performance which was beyond entertainment.
The performance went beyond technical display. Justajoo’ssongs focussed on emotion, reflection, and storytelling. The concert aimed to give listeners a chance to slow down and engage with music thoughtfully.
For Justajoo fans, the band’s appeal lies in how it blends political, social, and spiritual philosophy through writing, melody, and sound. Lyrics often referred to love, identity, and spiritual search without becoming abstract or distant.
In a time when many performances focus on spectacle, Justajoo’s approach remains simple. Music takes the lead, supported by live instrumentation and expressive vocals.
Delhi’s Audience and the Growing Interest in Alternative, Independent Music
Delhi has seen a steady rise in the number of people interested in fusion music that blends classical and modern forms. Independent artists across India have begun experimenting with similar styles, blending traditional ragas with contemporary arrangements.
Justajoo’s work fits within this wider movement. By combining classical influence with modern structure, the band speaks to both older and younger listeners. Some come for the classical tone, while others connect with the fusion sound.
As a result, performances often attract diverse audiences who share a common interest in thoughtful music.
When the lights went up at The Grid Rooms on March 15, the stage saw more than a typical band performance. The evening brought together music shaped by classical tradition, modern sound, and a shared search for meaning, purpose of existencethrough art.( Dr Shiv Sethi is the CEO of Authors Paradise Literary Consultancy.)
