The Album - Atit Adhyay
For independent musician Koustav Dasgupta, music has always been more than performance, it is a way of preserving moments, emotions, and fragments of life that refuse to fade with time. With the release of his latest Bengali album Atit Adhyay on March 1, 2026, the Kolkata-based singer-songwriter invites listeners into a deeply personal world shaped by memory, introspection, and emotional honesty.
Now available across major streaming platforms, the nine-track album unfolds like a reflective diary set to melody. ALBUM LINK: https://linktr.ee/KoustavDG
Written, composed, and sung entirely by Dasgupta, Atit Adhyay explores the complexities of love, loss, solitude, resilience, and healing—emotions that quietly shape the human experience.
The songs are situational and narrative-driven and marked by a sense of vulnerability. Each track carries the weight of lived experiences, turning personal reflections into musical storytelling. Through layered melodies and poetic lyricism, Dasgupta seeks to create a space where listeners can find echoes of their own journeys.
“Atit Adhyay is not just an album for me it is a collection of moments from different phases of my life. Every song carries a memory, a mixed set of feelings, and a few questions that stayed with me for years.” said Koustav Dasgupta.
At the beginning of the album lies “Tomay Bhalobashi,” the only song devoted purely to the pink-phase of love. In contrast to the introspective and sometimes melancholic tone of the other tracks, the song brings warmth and softness to the album’s emotional landscape, celebrating love in its most tender and happy form.

Musically, Atit Adhyay moves fluidly across genres. Elements of Indie Pop, Rock, Blues, Psychedelic Pop, and Folk Fusion weave together to create a sound that feels both contemporary and rooted in Bengali sensibilities. Songs such as “Mukti” and “Jachchhetai” carry an energetic pulse, while others allow free-flowing space for reflection and emotional depth.
The album closes on a poignant note with “Shesh Muhurto,” a collaboration with vocalist Monalisa Dutta. Their duet adds an additional emotional dimension to the album’s finale, leaving listeners with a lingering sense of introspection.
Crafting the Sound
While Dasgupta remains the central creative force behind the album, Atit Adhyay is also the result of collaboration with several accomplished musicians. Seven of the nine tracks were produced by the artist Koustav Dasgupta himself, while two songs were arranged by Arup Bhattacharya.
The album features musical contributions from artists such as Sudip Nag, Prithwish Roy, Plaban Karjee, Atandrita Roy, and Ratan Paramanick, whose instrumental and vocal performances helped shape the album’s layered soundscape.
To ensure sonic clarity and emotional nuance, the album was mixed and mastered by Alok Chowdhury at KV Studio.
From Classroom Jams to Independent Artist
Dasgupta’s musical journey began in the most unassuming yet commonly known setting school classrooms in Kolkata. Informal jam sessions with friends during free periods, often using classroom benches as makeshift percussion instruments, planted the earliest seeds of his creative path.
What began as casual singing gradually evolved into songwriting and live performances with local rock bands during his school and college years. One early milestone came in 2017 when he and his bandmates secured second place in a band competition organised by Jadavpur University, where he performed his original Bengali rock composition “Prarthana” a song that now finds its place within the album Atit Adhyay.
Beyond music, Koustav Dasgupta’s journey reflects a unique intersection of art and academia. He holds a Master’s degree in Biomedical Instrumentation from the University of Calcutta, graduating with a gold medal for securing the first rank. He later completed another Master’s degree in Social Work and has also contributed as a co-author to international scientific research publications in the field of Biomedical Optics.
Over the years, he has collaborated with musicians across India expanding his musical perspective while continuing to develop a sound rooted in emotional storytelling.
Looking Ahead
Following the release of Atit Adhyay, Dasgupta is planning a series of music videos and visual contents inspired by songs from the album. These visual narratives aim to deepen the emotional world of the music and allow audiences to experience the stories behind the songs in a more immersive way. He is also focusing his visions into writing and releasing more independent Hindi and English original songs in the near future.
He also performs live with his band Koustav Dasgupta Soundscapes, known for energetic stage performances that blend rock, pop, alternative, and folk influences. Their live sets feature original compositions alongside reinterpretations of beloved songs across Bengali, Hindi, and English.
With Atit Adhyay, Koustav Dasgupta adds a new chapter to India’s growing independent music movement—one shaped by honesty, introspection, and the belief that sometimes the most powerful stories are the ones sung deeply from the heart.
