Poet and Researcher Sudip Chandra Halder Distributes Winter Clothing Among the Underprivileged
Kashi, Staff Correspondent:
Ahead of the English New Year, nationally renowned poet and researcher Sudip Chandra Halder set a shining example of compassion and social responsibility by distributing blankets among underprivileged and cold-stricken people. The humanitarian initiative was carried out yesterday[01.01.26] in a slum area adjacent to the historic Samne Ghat in the holy city of Kashi.
As severe cold continues to disrupt daily life, this timely gesture brought visible relief to the beneficiaries, whose faces reflected gratitude and quiet joy.
The programme was graced by Swami Hrishikesh Brahmachari, Adyaksha of Shiv Shakti Seva Dham, as the chief guest. Addressing the gathering, he said,
“Service to humanity with the spirit of ‘Jiva is Shiva’ is the highest form of religion. Such humanitarian initiatives illuminate society.”
The event was inaugurated by Swami Shantananda Maharaj of Ramakrishna Sevashram, who urged the youth to follow the ideals of Swami Vivekananda. He remarked,
“Inspired by Vivekananda’s teachings, today’s youth must actively engage in service-oriented work. I sincerely hope that poet Sudip continues to dedicate himself to such noble causes in the future.”
Speaking to the media, Sudip Chandra Halder highlighted the deeper philosophical significance of the initiative. He said,
“Sacred Kashi is not merely a city; it is a cradle of the world’s oldest civilization and humanistic philosophy. The RigVeda—one of the most ancient and profound scriptures—was enshrined here, proclaiming ‘Sarve Bhavantu Sukhinah’ (May all be happy). This eternal message teaches us that alleviating human suffering is the truest form of religion. The Upanishadic ideal of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ reminds us that the whole world is one family. Unless we embrace these Vedic ideals and work for human welfare, how can a world torn by violence and unrest find peace? The new generation alone can become a beacon of humanity for the world.”

Among those present at the event were Vivek Kumar, Adrishya Shukla, Dipanjana Choudhury, Harshit Shukla, and Samarth Sharma, students of Banaras Hindu University, along with several local volunteers. The programme was conducted smoothly with the support of Lanka Police Station constables Arvind Yadav and Vishal Rao.
More than a charitable act, this winter clothing distribution programme stood as a practical expression of ancient Bharatiya(Indian) humanistic philosophy, spreading hope and warmth across society on the eve of the New Year.
