Tanuj
Abu Dhabi | IUCN :
Tanuj is all set to attend the World Conservation Congress to be held in Abu Dhabi this year. He will participate in this global gathering on behalf of UNFCCC representing India in the month of October. Tanuj serves as a commission member in the Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP) at IUCN. The World Conservation Conservation is a once-every-four-years gathering of nature conservation experts, leaders and decision-makers from around the world. This year the overarching theme of the congress is ‘Power of Transformative Change’. The event will witness the participation of more than 2000 changemakers from different domains of policy, environmental activism and eco-tech and governance.
Tanuj will also be participating in the Global Youth Summit to be held on 8th October in the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Center (ADNEC). Tanuj is one of the youngest youths from the global South who has been chosen to participate in the Congress. It is expected that he’ll participate in the thematic sessions of the commission and country specific pavilions as well. He has expressed his desire to raise the issue of Assam’s shrinking wetland and direct the attention of policymakers to the issue of encroachment of these wetlands for industrial activity. Additionally, he would also bring grassroot acts of climate resilience by the indigenous communities in his region to the forefront. Tanuj would also participate in the Commission specific board meetings as a member and youth delegate.
Tanuj has previously participated in the Conference of Subsidiary Bodies, on behalf of Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE), YOUNGO-UNFCCC this June. Tanuj is an emerging voice in the spheres of policy, environmental and youth activism. He has recently received the UN Millennium Fellowship and the Billion Acts Peace Fellowship for his community projects.
