A day after the Supreme Court granted bail to Bibhav Kumar, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Swati Maliwal shared a poignant image of Draupadi’s disrobing by Dushasana from the Mahabharata, seemingly in response to the court’s decision. This comes after Maliwal, a prominent AAP leader and former head of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), alleged that Kumar, who previously served as a personal assistant to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, had assaulted her at the Chief Minister’s Civil Lines residence on May 13.
Maliwal’s allegations, detailed in her First Information Report (FIR), included claims that Kumar had physically assaulted her by slapping and kicking her multiple times, outraging her modesty, and issuing threats. She accused him of attacking her without provocation, stating that he had slapped her 7-8 times, kicked her in the chest and pelvis, and even pulled up her shirt in a deliberate attempt to humiliate her.
Following these allegations, Kumar was arrested by the police from the residence of the Chief Minister. However, his recent bail comes with conditions imposed by the Supreme Court. As part of his bail, Kumar is prohibited from entering the Chief Minister’s residence until key witnesses in the case have been examined. Additionally, the court has barred him from making any public comments about the case until ‘vulnerable’ witnesses have provided their testimonies.
Swati Maliwal, a sitting member of the Rajya Sabha representing the AAP, shared the image of Draupadi’s attempted disrobing as a symbolic expression of her ordeal, perhaps drawing a parallel between her own experiences and the ancient tale of injustice and public humiliation.
