A 24-year-old female postgraduate student enrolled at the IIT Guwahati was found dead in her hostel room on Friday morning, according to the institute authorities. The deceased, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh, was pursuing her M-Tech degree at IIT Guwahati.
The tragic discovery was made by fellow students, who immediately informed the institute authorities. The authorities then contacted the police, who promptly arrived on the scene and recovered the body from the hostel room.
Preliminary investigations by the police suggest that this could be a case of suicide. However, a thorough investigation is currently underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death. The police have also informed the student’s family about the incident.
In a statement released on Friday evening, IIT Guwahati expressed its deep sorrow over the tragic loss of the student on August 9, 2024. The statement emphasized that the police authorities are actively investigating the matter. Furthermore, the institute assured that it is providing full support to the student’s immediate family during this incredibly difficult and heartbreaking time.
