At least two people were killed, and around 20 sustained injuries after several bogies of the Dibrugarh Express derailed in Uttar Pradesh’s Gonda on Thursday. Two individuals were seriously injured in the accident.
Uttar Pradesh Relief Commissioner GS Naveen Kumar confirmed that 20 people were injured in the incident.
“A 40-member medical team and 15 ambulances are already at the site, with more medical teams and ambulances on the way,” said Kumar. Senior railway and local administration officials are also present, about 150 km from Lucknow, to manage the rescue operations.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed district authorities to ensure proper treatment for those injured in the accident.
In a post on X, the CM’s office stated, “Taking cognizance of the train accident in Gonda district, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed the district administration officials to reach the spot and expedite the relief work. The Chief Minister has instructed the officials to immediately take the injured to the hospital and provide them with proper treatment. He also wished for the speedy recovery of the injured.”
Indian Railways has commenced relief operations, and medical vans have arrived at the accident site.
North Eastern Railway CPRO Pankaj Singh told ANI, “The medical van of Railways has reached the spot and rescue operation has been started. Helpline numbers have been issued. It happened around 2:37 pm.”

Uttar Pradesh’s Relief Commissioner announced on X that one NDRF team each was dispatched from Lucknow and Balrampur to Gonda.
Additionally, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s office stated that he was closely monitoring the situation. “HCM Dr. Himanta Biswa has been briefed about the derailment of Dibrugarh express in Uttar Pradesh. HCM is monitoring the situation and the Government of Assam is in touch with relevant authorities,” it said on X.
