As a professional, I have a unique opportunity to use my skills through social media platforms to advocate for mental health, break down stigmas, and foster positive behaviours in kids and among the youth, aiming at changing the major structural and attitudinal barriers to achieving positive mental health outcomes.
Social media has been a great opportunity platform and I plan to continue raising awareness through it in the future generations.
Q9. Beyond your professional achievements, tell us about the personal journey that led you to become a prominent figure in the mental health domain. What ignited your passion for helping others in this profound way?
A: If you think about it, nearly every career helps others in some way, shape, or form. Teachers, scientists, policemen and various other careers aid people in different ways. I, like many others, have always known that I’ve wanted to help people. Yet, I also want to do more than that. I want to help others, but also save others- emotionally or physically, mentor others, inspire others, and be there for others during their most vulnerable times. This is who I am- and I have always been this person. In first grade, I ran a lemonade stand at my school for the Help Age India Foundation; I got my third grade class to raise money for starving children; I put up with bullying throughout middle school because I befriended a girl who had trouble making friends on her own and was boycotted in college for standing up against Ragging. The quality of pure selflessness and care for others that I have always possessed would allow me to do something great with my life- it just took me some time to figure out what.
I had a natural inclination towards human psychology and behaviour, and as I pursued this inclination, I grew more and more passionate about becoming a therapist. Each day, I wholeheartedly put my determination into everything I do and I’m grateful for having this opportunity in this lifetime.
Q10. Looking at your diverse contributions, both professionally and personally, what do you consider your proudest moment or accomplishment in the field of mental health advocacy?
A: Everyday is a proud moment for me. When I bring a sense of relief to my clients, when someone smiles at the end of a session, when I see my clients handling life situations and creating healthy boundaries for them, when they heal from their pain and trauma, when a client starts to feel confident in themselves again, when someone decides to not give up on life.. that’s a proud moment for me. My work everyday, is a wholesome accomplishment.
