In a significant breakthrough, the Delhi Police Special Cell, in collaboration with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), successfully apprehended Javed Mattoo, a notorious figure associated with the terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen, in the heart of the national capital.
The arrest of Mattoo culminated from an intense search operation launched by the NIA, leading to a significant recovery. The authorities confiscated a pistol, a magazine, and a stolen vehicle from Mattoo, highlighting the gravity of his involvement in nefarious activities.
Special Commissioner of Delhi Police, HGS Dhaliwal, asserted, “With the coordination of Special Cell of Delhi Police and central agencies, Javed Mattoo, an A++ category terrorist who has a bounty of ₹10 lakh on him, was arrested today…After taking him into police custody remand, we will further action against him,” shedding light on the collaborative efforts that led to the successful operation.
Mattoo’s roots trace back to Jammu and Kashmir’s Sopore district, where he emerged as a significant figure linked to numerous disturbing incidents. His involvement in five grenade attacks within the union territory and the ruthless killing of five police personnel in separate incidents underscores the severity of his actions.
Police authorities underscored Mattoo’s status as one of the last surviving A++ designated terrorists from Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing the importance of his capture in dismantling the operational capacity of such extremist elements in the region.
