In a recent interview with BBC Asian Network, Kartik Aaryan finally opened up about the disappointing box office performance of his film “Shehzada,” which was released earlier this year in February. The movie, an official Hindi remake of the Telugu film “Ala Vaikunthapurramloo,” failed to meet expectations, leaving Kartik Aaryan with some valuable insights.
During the interview conducted in London, Kartik candidly expressed his thoughts, stating, “I think the biggest perspective that I got was that I would not do a remake again. This was my first time doing a remake, and while filming, I didn’t realize it, but later on, I understood that people have already seen this story. I don’t see them watching it again, spending money, and going to theaters to watch the same thing.”
The 145-minute film, helmed by Rohit Dhawan, also starred Kriti Sanon in the lead role, along with renowned actors like Paresh Rawal, Ronit Roy, Sunny Hinduja, and Manisha Koirala in pivotal roles. This project marked Kartik and Kriti’s second collaboration after “Luka Chuppi.”
“Shehzada” received mixed reviews, with critics noting its hero-driven focus and over-the-top production design. Although some aspects were tailored for the Hindi audience, the movie failed to make a lasting impact, lagging due to its dragged-out parentage issue. Collecting a total of ₹32.02 crores in India, the film fell short of the expected box office response.
In contrast, Kartik’s previous film “Satyaprem Ki Katha,” in which he starred alongside Kiara Advani, emerged as a box office hit when it was released on June 29. This success showcased Kartik’s potential and versatility as an actor, leaving fans eager to see more of his work.
Moving forward, Kartik Aaryan has decided to steer clear of remakes, emphasizing that he does not want to rehash stories that others have already portrayed. He acknowledged the appeal of remakes in the industry but expressed a desire to work on original projects that challenge and excite him creatively.
With his upcoming project “Chandu Champion,” directed by Kabir Khan, Kartik seems determined to explore new territories and offer fresh content to his audience. By venturing into uncharted waters, he aims to maintain his relevance and keep fans engaged with his work.
As Kartik Aaryan continues to evolve as an actor, his commitment to authentic storytelling and originality is sure to resonate with both audiences and critics alike. While “Shehzada” may have been a learning experience for him, it also serves as a stepping stone toward a more diverse and fulfilling career in the world of cinema.
