Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge reiterated on Tuesday that the Congress party is not interested in the position of Prime Minister or the allure of power. Instead, he emphasised that their aim is to gain power in order to safeguard the constitution, democracy, secularism, and social justice.
Kharge stated during the opposition meeting, “I had already mentioned in Chennai, on MK Stalin’s birthday, that Congress is not driven by the pursuit of power or the Prime Minister’s post. Our objective in this meeting is not to attain power for ourselves, but to protect our constitution, democracy, secularism, and social justice.”
He also highlighted the presence of 26 parties at the opposition meeting and pointed out that these parties are currently in power in 11 states. Kharge took a dig at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), stating that the BJP did not secure 303 seats on its own.
Kharge remarked, “The BJP did not achieve 303 seats independently. It relied on the votes of its allies to come into power and then disregarded them. Today, the BJP president and their leaders are scrambling from one state to another to reconcile with their former allies.”
In the meantime, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched an attack on the opposition parties, asserting that India has always possessed capabilities and capacities, but corrupt and dynastic parties have consistently been unjust. He further claimed that the motto of the opposition is “family first and nation nothing.”
During the virtual inauguration of the new integrated terminal building of the Port Blair airport, Prime Minister Modi stated, “Indians have always had the capabilities and capacities, but corrupt dynastic parties have consistently treated them unjustly and made India suffer the consequences. Democracy means ‘of the people, by the people, for the people.’ However, these family-oriented parties have a mantra of ‘of the family, by the family, for the family.’ For them, their family comes first, and the nation means nothing!”
Additionally, Prime Minister Modi emphasised that the BJP government has not only rectified the mistakes of previous administrations but has also provided new facilities and opportunities for the people.
