A united platform comprising various opposition parties is actively seeking a prominent figure to lead them in their challenge against the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The selection of a strong face to represent the alliance has become a subject of intense speculation. When questioned on Monday about his potential candidacy for the prime ministerial position, Akhilesh Yadav the chief of the Samajwadi Party, stated that the opposition possesses several capable leaders and the decision regarding the face of the alliance will be made at a later stage.
“We have many potential candidates for the prime ministerial post, and when the time comes, we will collectively decide,” said Akhilesh Yadav.
JD(U) president clarifies Nitish Kumar’s stance
Recent speculations have arisen regarding the candidacy of Nitish Kumar, the chief minister of Bihar, for the prime ministerial role in the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Nitish Kumar took the initiative to unite the opposition parties, fueling discussions about his potential role. However, Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh, the national president of JD(U), recently clarified that after the conclusion of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, all political parties will come together to collectively determine the most suitable candidate to lead the country.
Singh emphasized that a meeting, similar to the one held in Patna on June 23, would be convened after the 2024 election results to decide who should be entrusted with the responsibility of leading India and reinstating the democratic values the nation is known for. He added, “Nitish Kumar’s commitment is solely aimed at achieving this objective.”
RJD leader’s comment on Rahul Gandhi’s potential candidacy
Following a meeting of opposition leaders in Patna last month, Lalu Prasad Yadav, the former chief minister of Bihar and the leader of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), made an intriguing comment during a joint press conference. He playfully urged Rahul Gandhi to consider getting married and expressed willingness on behalf of the opposition to attend his wedding. Some political analysts interpreted this as a veiled declaration of Rahul Gandhi as a potential prime ministerial candidate.
However, the RJD leader later clarified that his suggestion was not directly related to Rahul Gandhi’s candidacy for the prime ministerial position. He added that “whoever becomes the Prime Minister should not be without a spouse.” Lalu Prasad Yadav emphasized the importance of the Prime Minister having a wife and stated that the tradition of staying at the Prime Minister’s residence without a spouse should be abolished.
The search for a strong leader to represent the united opposition parties continues, and the decision regarding the face of the alliance will be made collectively at a later stage.
