Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel expressed his concerns regarding the recently released film “Adipurush,” stating that he found the dialogues within the film objectionable and indecent. He alleged that the movie aimed to tarnish the image of Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman. Baghel also mentioned that if the people of the state demanded it, the Congress government might consider banning the film.
Baghel emphasized that this was an attempt to undermine the reputation of revered deities. He pointed out that traditionally, Lord Ram and Lord Hanuman have been portrayed with gentle faces full of devotion. However, in recent years, there has been an effort to change this established image.
When asked about the possibility of a ban, Baghel responded that the government would contemplate such action if there was significant demand from the public. He also questioned the silence of political parties who claim to be the protectors of religious beliefs.
Baghel further highlighted that Hanuman has always been regarded as a symbol of wisdom, power, and devotion since childhood. However, in “Adipurush,” Lord Ram was depicted as a warrior (Yuddhak) while Hanuman was portrayed as an angry figure. He went on to allege that Hanuman was made to speak in the language associated with Bajrang Dal, a controversial right-wing organization.
The chief minister expressed his dissatisfaction, stating that neither our ancestors nor our society could accept such an image of Lord Hanuman. He drew a comparison with Tulasidas’ Ramayana, where Lord Ram was portrayed as “Maryada Purushottam” (the epitome of virtue and righteousness) and emphasized the use of decent language. In contrast, Baghel claimed that the dialogues in “Adipurush” were of a very low standard.
Baghel also mentioned that during the tenure of Rajiv Gandhi as prime minister, he had suggested the creation of the epic serial “Ramayana” by Ramanand Sagar, which gained immense popularity. He lamented that in “Adipurush,” the portrayals of Lord Ram and Hanuman were distorted, and indecent language was attributed to the characters. He expressed concern about what the younger generation would learn from such content.
“Adipurush,” starring Prabhas and Kirti Sanon, is a retelling of the epic Ramayana and was released on Friday.
