Rangers detained former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan outside the Islamabad High Court on Tuesday. In a corruption case, Imran Khan , the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), was taken into custody from a court premises in Islamabad.
Imran Khan was detained by the NAB (National Accountability Bureau) for causing financial harm to the nation because he failed to show up despite receiving notices. Rana Sanaullah, Pakistan’s interior minister, claimed on Twitter that there was no violence committed against them.
Fawad Chaudhry, Imran Khan’s aide, had earlier stated that “Imran Khan ‘s car has been surrounded,” without confirming that Khan had been taken into custody.
Azhar Mashwani, a different PTI leader, asserted that the Rangers “abducted” Khan from inside the court. He claimed that the party had issued an immediate call for protests across the country.
They did something with Khan sahib,” PTI leader Musarrat Cheema said in a video message shared on the party’s Twitter account. “Right now, they are torturing Imran Khan […] they are beating Imran Khan sahib.”
Shireen Mazari, a senior party official, claims that the PTI chairman was being subjected to a biometric procedure at the court when Rangers broke open the glass window and took him into custody after beating lawyers and Khan’s security personnel. The PTI chairman had travelled from Lahore to the federal capital Islamabad.
The Rangers were seen on TV grabbing Imran Khan by the collar and dragging him into a prison van.
“Mr Khan has been arrested in connection with a land transfer case involving property tycoon Malik Riaz and has been handed over to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB),” a NAB official said.
He stated that Imran Khan had been arrested in connection with the Al-Qadir Trust case. “His arrest warrants were issued this morning, and he was arrested,” he said.
“Which laws? Rangers attacked the courts as if they were invading an occupied territory; lawyers and IHC staff were also beaten. “This is Pakistan today: a fascist state where paramilitary forces have attacked the High Court,” Mazari said.
“State terrorism – breaking into the IHC to kidnap Imran Khan from the courtroom.” The law of the jungle is in effect. “Rangers beat the lawyers, used violence on Imran Khan, and kidnapped him,” Mazari tweeted.
Imran Khan ‘s arrest comes a day after the Pakistan Army slammed him for making “highly irresponsible and baseless” allegations against a serving ISI officer without providing any evidence, sparking a new round of verbal sparring between the powerful military and the former prime minister.
In a forceful statement, the military’s media branch, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), also said that Khan’s “fabricated and malicious allegations are extremely unfortunate, deplorable, and unacceptable.”
Insinuations and sensational propaganda have been directed at military and intelligence agency officials over the past year to further political goals, according to the report.
The declaration was made two days after the 70-year-old politician who had previously played cricket accused Gen Faisal Naseer of the ISI of orchestrating plans to assassinate him at a rally on Saturday.
Previously, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif chastised the PTI chief for “maligning and threatening” the army and intelligence agencies.
