Another minor explosion, the second in 30 hours, was reported around 6 a.m. Monday on a heritage street near the Golden Temple in Amritsar. According to the police, there were no fatalities, but one person was injured and a car windshield was broken.
The first explosion happened near the Bansal sweet shop. The second explosion occurred near the same location but on the opposite side. The police have cordoned off the area and are conducting an investigation. They began searching the area for any hidden explosives.
Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav arrived at the blast site and stated that police were investigating all angles, including the significance of the timing of the blast.
“According to preliminary investigation, these were low-intensity blasts on Heritage Street,” he said. We’ve been conducting scientific research. Our forensic team has arrived. The spot has not provided us with a detonator or triggering mechanism. This suggests that the explosives used in the blast were stored in a container.”
“The lack of a triggering mechanism indicates that a crude type of device (was used).” It is too early to tell whether it is mischief or if there is a terror component, an organized attempt by some module, or a personal component. We will not rule out any possibilities. We will thoroughly investigate all possibilities. We will also look into the significance of the blast’s timing. “We will investigate whether someone obtained locally available material to misrepresent the law and order situation in Punjab,” said the DGP.
Sources linked his statement about the significance of the timing of the blast to the May 10 byelection for the Jalandhar Lok Sabha seat.
He stated that the Punjab Police can maintain peace and harmony. “Everything here is normal, including transportation. I urge the public not to be swayed by rumours. To avoid such rumours, we conduct fact-checking on social media channels. To further investigate, we will examine CCTV footage and question people who were present at the time of the explosion. “Both blasts resulted in minor injuries to one person,” the DGP said.
“My goal in coming here is to send a message that Punjab Police is here to keep the state secure and safe.” The second point to make is that there is no need to panic. “We will resolve this case in the same manner as previous cases,” the DGP added.
The first blast was reported on Saturday night, injuring one person and damaging the glass facades of several buildings. The first blast was investigated forensically by police.
