Anurag Kashyap has released the first trailer for his upcoming film Kennedy, which stars Sunny Leone and Rahul Bhat. Kennedy will have its world premiere at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in May, it was announced a few days ago. It was the only Indian film to screen at the 76th Cannes Film Festival.
Anurag took to Instagram to reveal the first look at Kennedy, posting two stills featuring actors Rahul Bhat and Sunny Leone. In the first image, Rahul Bhat is holding a gun and pointing it directly at the camera. Sunny Leone is still dressed retro in a yellow sari and oversized sunglasses in the second photo. Anurag shared the first look, which featured the Festival de Cannes logo in the top left corner, with the caption, “Meet Kennedy and Charlie @itsrahulbhat @sunnyleone @zeestudiosofficial @goodbadfilmsofficial.”
Sunny Leone also took to Instagram to express her delight that Kennedy would be screened at the Cannes Film Festival. “I am beyond belief at this amazing moment,” she wrote. One of my proudest achievements in my entire career. @anuragkashyap10 is the ONLY Indian film representing India at the prestigious @festivaldecannes. You are the light that has allowed me to audition for this part. I will always be your “Charlie” and thank you from the bottom of my heart. @itsrahulbhat, you are our Kennedy, and your performance will keep the entire world on edge! I adore you and am so proud of you! “Cann kholke sunlo” I am overjoyed to announce that my next film, #Kennedy, has been selected for the Official Selection at the Cannes Film Festival! Kennedy, directed by Anurag Kashyap, will open the 76th Cannes Film Festival as part of the Official Selection in the Midnight Screenings section.”
Anurag Kashyap said in a statement about the experience of making this film, “It’s a film and genre I’ve always wanted to explore.” It’s more polar than noir, inspired by Patrick Manchette’s crime writing and comic book collaborations with Jacques Tardi, as well as Melville’s cinema. It’s also a deeply personal crime/police drama, for which I’m grateful to Zee Studios, Shariq and team, Neeraj, Bhumika, my producers Ranjan, Kabir, and Kavan, my entire team, and my partners in crime Sylver, Kazvin, Prashant, for their assistance. Rahul Bhat, who gave 8 months of his life; Sunny Leone, who accepted the challenge; Mohit Takalkar, who accepted the challenge…I’m just grateful at the moment.”
On Thursday, the Cannes Film Festival’s official Twitter handle announced the inclusion of Anurag Kashyap’s Kennedy in the festival’s Midnight Screenings section. “KENNEDY by Anurag KASHYAP #SéanceDeMinuit / #MidnightScreenings #Cannes2023,” the caption read. At the festival, Anurag had previously premiered Gangs of Wasseypur, Ugly, and Raman Raghav 2.0. Anurag’s most recent release was Almost Pyaar, a collaboration with DJ Mohabbat that starred Alaya F and Karan Mehta. On February 3, the romantic musical was released.
