Rahul Gandhi, Senior leader of the Congress, stepped up his criticism of the BJP-led central government on Saturday, this time over rising inflation, and shared a chart on social media comparing the prices of essential items during the UPA government in 2013 to current rates. Rahul Gandhi claimed that inflation is not easing because the government is focused on increasing the income of beleaguered billionaire Gautam Adani and shielding him from the investigation.
“How will inflation be reduced, and how will the public’s pain be visible?” Gandhi posted the chart on Twitter. “The government’s entire focus is on increasing Adani’s income and protecting it from the investigation.”
The graph depicts the dramatic increase in flour, rice, milk, ghee, edible oil, lentils, and cooking gas prices over the last decade.
Earlier today, Gandhi suggested that the switch of Congress leaders to the BJP was merely a distraction from the Adani issue. He shared graphics that spelled out Adani using a letter from each of the five former Congress leaders’ names.
“They conceal the truth, which is why they mislead people every day!” Gandhi stated this in a tweet. “The question remains: who has 20,000 crores in benami funds in Adani’s companies?”
Himanta Biswa Sarma, a chief minister of Assam, Jyotiraditya Scindia, a former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, Kiran Kumar Reddy, Anil Antony, a son of the late AK Antony, a former defense minister, and Ghulam Nabi Azad, a former chief minister of J&K are among the leaders he mentioned in the tweet. The Democratic Azad Party, Azad’s own political front, was launched while four of them joined the BJP. (DAP).
Gandhi’s tweet drew a sharp retort from Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who said it was their “decency” not to question him about the Bofors and National Herald cases. Anil K Antony retorted to Rahul Gandhi, saying the Congress leader was acting “like a social media cell troll.”
