According to sources, opposition parties led by the Congress will continue to stage protests in black clothes in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue inside the Parliament premise. The decision was reached during a dinner meeting of opposition parties at Congress president and Rajya Sabha Leader Mallikarjun Kharge’s 10, Rajaji Marg residence. The final decision will be made tomorrow during a meeting in Kharge’s office. The opposition staged a massive protest today in response to Congress MP Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification as a Lok Sabha MP and a demand for a joint parliamentary committee-level investigation into the Adani-Hindenburg case.
“Rahul Gandhi is unconcerned about his house.” Whatever the Indian government does with the country’s democracy is a bigger issue, he said. “Every Opposition party is present, we had a cordial discussion, and we will move forward with the same vigour,” Congress general secretary KC Venugopal told ANI.
Kharge slammed the Centre for ‘trampling the interests of 140 crore people’ by saving the ‘Prime Minister’s param mitre’ in a video clip from the meeting. He reiterated the Opposition’s demand for a joint parliamentary committee to investigate the Adani-Hindenburg issue.
The dinner meeting was attended by leaders from major political parties such as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Bharat Raksha Samithi (BRS).
However, as previously stated, the Shiv Sena’s Uddhav Thackeray faction skipped the meeting after the party chief warned of a schism in the Opposition alliance over Rahul Gandhi’s remark on Hindutva ideology VD Savarkar.
The latest schism between the Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Congress comes after Rahul Gandhi recently drew a parallel between Savarkar and the Centre’s demand for his apology for remarks on Indian democracy made in the United Kingdom. “My name is not Savarkar, and I will not apologize,” he declared defiantly at a press conference.
“Veer Savarkar is our God, and we will not tolerate any disrespect for him.” “We are ready to fight, but insulting our Gods will not be tolerated,” the former Maharashtra chief minister said.
The Congress and other Opposition parties wore black to Parliament today to protest the “end of democracy in PM Modi’s India.” This comes just days after Rahul Gandhi lost his Lok Sabha seat as a result of a Surat court decision in a criminal defamation case. The Congress condemned the ‘lightning-fast’ decision that disqualified Gandhi and dubbed it a “black day.”
