Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha said on Thursday that the BJP-led government will never support a demand such as ‘Tipraland’ or ‘Greater Tipraland,’ a day after a high-level meeting between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Tipra Motha supremo Pradyot Kishore Debbarma in this state.
The Tipra Motha, a regional party based on the ‘Greater Tipraland’ demand, ran in the Tripura Assembly elections in 2023 and finished second with 13 seats in the 60-member assembly.
“We had a tribal welfare discussion about how to improve the socioeconomic status of indigenous people. The meeting did not make a decision on appointing an interlocutor, but there will be a discussion on tribal welfare “, Saha explained.
The leader of Tipra Motha claimed that the Central government will formally appoint an interlocutor to look into the issues facing indigenous people to take corrective action shortly after the meeting with Union Home Minister and BJP national president JP Nadda.
The chief minister reaffirmed that the BJP-IPFT government will prioritize tribal welfare. Before the 2023 Assembly elections, the BJP-IPFT government, according to Saha, will work on the vision statement unveiled by the party’s national president.
When asked about the BJP’s chances in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the chief minister asserted that the party will fare better throughout the Northeast as a whole as well as in Tripura.
“We will get more seats in the next general election than the party got in the Northeast elections in 2019,” he predicted.
During the first cabinet meeting, the Chief Minister announced that Binoy Bhusan Das had been appointed as pro-tem speaker of the Assembly, and a discussion about the vote on account took place.
The portfolios of the new ministers will be distributed shortly,” he said, adding that bringing in new faces was a normal practice for the BJP government. This time, four ministers from the previous cabinet were removed.
The chief minister commented on post-election violence “Some reports have come to my attention. A special interest group is attempting to cause havoc. I have instructed the DGP to take firm action in this matter “.
