Ranbir Kapoor has clarified his statement that he would ‘love to’ work in a Pakistani film. According to reports, Ranbir discussed it during a recent promotional event for his upcoming film Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar. Ranbir said that his statement was ‘misconstrued’ adding that he ‘didn’t want it to be controversial in any way’.
Ranbir attended the Red Sea International Film Festival in December of last year. He was also on a panel and was asked by a Pakistani filmmaker if he would be interested in acting in a production set elsewhere.
Ranbir stated, “Certainly, sir. I believe that there are no boundaries for artists, especially in the arts… Of course, I’d like to.”
According to Indian Express, Ranbir has now stated, “I think yeh thoda mera statement misconstrues ho gaya tha. (I believe my statement was misconstrued). I had attended a film festival where many Pakistani filmmakers asked me, ‘If you have a good subject, would you do it?’ So I didn’t want it to be divisive in any way. I don’t believe there is a controversy here. (It wasn’t a big deal.) But, to me, films are films, and art is art. Fawad (Khan) and I collaborated on Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.”
“I’ve known a lot of Pakistani artists. Rahat (Fateh Ali Khan) and Atif Aslam are two great singers who have made significant contributions to Hindi cinema. As a result, cinema is cinema. I don’t believe in boundaries in cinema. But, of course, you must respect art, but art is not greater than your country. So, whoever is at odds with your country, your priority will always be your country,” he said at the Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar event.
Ranbir will next be seen in Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, co-starring Shraddha Kapoor and comedian Anubhav Singh Bassi. The film, directed by Luv Ranjan, marks Ranbir and Shraddha’s first on-screen collaboration. Tu Jhoothi Main Makkaar, produced by Luv Films’ Luv Ranjan and Ankur Garg and presented by T-Series’ Gulshan Kumar and Bhushan Kumar, will be released in theaters on March 8.
Ranbir is also working on Animal with Rashmika Mandanna. The film is directed by Sandeep Reddy Bhanga and stars Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, and Tripti Dimri.
