Prime Minister Narendra Modi lashed out at the Congress-CPI(M) coalition in election-bound Tripura on Saturday, saying that formerly, police stations in the state were controlled by Left cadre, but now that the Bharatiya Janata Party is in power, there is rule of law.
During an electoral rally in Tripura’s Ambassa, Modi claimed that the Congress and Communists had hampered Tripura’s progress for decades. The BJP government has brought about growth in the state. “Violence is no longer Tripura’s identity. “The BJP liberated the state from terror and violence,” the prime minister declared.
“Earlier, police stations in Tripura were taken by the CPM cadre but today under BJP leadership, there’s a rule of law in the state. “There are now women empowerment in the state, and there is an ease of life,” Modi was reported as saying by the news agency ANI.
Modi asserted, in a veiled allusion to Tipra Motha, led by Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barma, that some other parties were also assisting the Opposition alliance from behind, but that any support for them would set Tripura back several years.
“Old misgovernance players have joined hands, and some other parties are also assisting them from behind – whatever their name or slogan, even a single vote for them will push Tripura backward,” he warned.
“The BJP is striving for tribal upliftment across India,” he said.
He addressed the audience, “Beware of the double-edged sword of Congress and Left, they want to halt all plans that help the people.” He urged the people to vote for the “double-engine” administration to continue the northeastern state’s development streak.
Modi said that the BJP had liberated Tripura from a fearful atmosphere and a “Chanda” culture (donations).
“Your votes will keep the Leftists out of power and assure the continuation of Tripura’s ‘double-engine’ administration,” he continued.
Modi stated that 5,000 kilometers of roads were created in Tripura to connect villages as part of the BJP government’s initiatives for the state’s development. “Agartala also got a new airport. Villages are getting optical fiber and 4G connectivity. Tripura is now becoming a worldwide player. “We are constructing canals to connect the northeast and Tripura to ports,” Modi stated.
