Jairam Ramesh, general secretary of the Congress, announced on Monday that 23 political parties have been invited to participate in the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Srinagar on January 30. “I’m not sure how many have accepted the invitation, but we expect them all to come,” he told the news agency ANI. The march will begin on January 19 in Jammu and Kashmir and end on January 30 in Srinagar.
The Yatra was also dubbed a “mass movement” by the Congress leader.
Farooq Abdullah, a National Congress leader, and former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister, joined Rahul Gandhi on the march earlier this month. “With this love and blessings, we will reach our goal,” Congress said in a video of Gandhi hugging Abdullah. We set out to unite the country, and we will demonstrate that by uniting the country.”
The Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra began on September 7 in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, and will end on January 30 in Srinagar. Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana have all been visited as part of the Yatra.
The march entered Punjab on Wednesday and is currently passing through Mandi Gobindgarh, Khanna, Sahnewal, Ludhiana, Goraya, Phagwara, Jalandhar, Dasyua, and Mukerian. Before entering Jammu and Kashmir, the party will hold a rally in Pathankot on January 19.
Gandhi will reportedly walk for three hours each morning and evening, covering a distance of 25 kilometers.
