On Wednesday, Ranbir Kapoor spoke at the Red Sea Film Festival in Jeddah about the box office failure of his film Shamshera and what he regrets the most. Ranbir Kapoor wore a heavy beard and long hair in his first public appearance since the birth of his daughter, Raha. He wore a blue check suit with a white shirt to the Red Sea International Film Festival in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
On the sidelines of the event, the actor discussed his film Shershaah’s poor performance and his biggest mistake while making the film. Shamshera marked Ranbir’s return to the big screen after a four-year absence. It was released in July of this year, ahead of his September release, Brahmastra, which was a success.
At the festival, Ranbir described Shamshera as “the hardest film” he had ever worked on, telling Deadline, “It was a big box office disaster, but the biggest mistake I made on Shamshera was that I stuck on a beard.” When you are shooting in the heat and have a beard on, it feels like your face is melting.”
Ranbir also discussed his “another disaster,” Jagga Jasoos, a 2017 film with Katrina Kaif. The film was delayed significantly and failed to meet their box office expectations. “It is a film I produced,” he explained. It was a labor of love. Anurag Basu directed the film. It was a very heartwarming and sweet idea, but it did not do well, which hurt a lot,” he said, adding, “That is the only film in my career that hurt me.”
In response to many Bollywood films’ poor performances, Ranbir stated that the “entire culture of going to a theater for a community viewing of a movie seems to be dying, and it is only there for the big ticket films.” He, on the other hand, expressed optimism that it will soon bounce back with strong storytelling.
Ranbir’s most recent film, Brahmastra, was his first with his wife Alia Bhatt. They fell in love while working on the film a few years ago and married months before its release. Raha, their daughter was born last month.
