Early Life and Values

Sahil Kapoor was born and raised in Amritsar, Punjab, in a family where education, values, and discipline shaped his worldview. His mother, an M.A. and B.Ed. in Dance,

and his father, who ran a textile printing business, instilled in him the principles of hard work, honesty, and perseverance. His maternal grandparents reinforced these values, teaching him that dedication and sincerity always lead to meaningful success.

As a child, Sahil Kapoor displayed a keen interest in academics and sports. He earned distinctions in Mathematics and Science during matriculation and won the District Gymnastics Championship. These early experiences shaped his discipline, focus, and competitive spirit, which later guided his academic and professional endeavors.

A Career in Business Development

Sahil Kapoor’s professional journey began soon after graduation when he joined Hotel Ritz Plaza as a Business Development Trainee. Over time, he gained extensive

experience in leadership, operations, and strategy while working with reputed organizations such as Ambuja Cements, Parle Biscuits Pvt. Ltd., Nitco Ltd., and

Walmart. He eventually served as Operations Manager and later Business Development Manager, handling significant responsibilities and contributing to the growth and

efficiency of each organization.

Later, Sahil Kapoor started his own consulting firm in the grocery retail sector, managing turnkey retail projects and guiding teams to execute large-scale operations. This period of his career spanned nearly two decades and provided him with valuable insights into organizational management, strategic planning, and operational excellence.

A Turning Point: Finding Purpose in Law

While managing his professional responsibilities, Sahil Kapoor began volunteering with an NGO that assisted victims of the misuse of matrimonial laws. Offering counseling

and strategic guidance to affected families became a deeply meaningful pursuit. This experience ignited a sense of purpose in him and led to a career transition into law, focusing on family dispute resolution and mediation.

He pursued an LLB and followed it with an LLM in Family Law and Social Security from Desh Bhagat University, graduating with distinction and receiving a Gold Medal. To further strengthen his expertise, Sahil Kapoor completed the Advanced Diploma in Family Dispute Resolution from NALSAR, Hyderabad, earning First Rank, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Family Therapy and Counseling from IGNOU. These academic

achievements provided the foundation for his work in mediation and family law reform.

Balancing Life and Career Transitions

Transitioning careers after the age of forty presented significant challenges. Balancing academics, professional practice, and personal life required perseverance, dedication, and resilience. Despite the difficulties, Sahil Kapoor’s commitment to growth and

service kept him grounded.

Today, his practice focuses on family dispute resolution and mediation. He believes that family conflicts rarely belong in courtrooms. They need spaces where emotions are understood, privacy is maintained, and solutions are built through dialogue and understanding.

PhD Research and Legal Contributions

Sahil Kapoor’s ongoing PhD research, titled “Reforming Family Law: A Critical Study on the Necessity of Mandatory Mediation in Matrimonial Disputes and Its Legislative Viability in India,” reflects his vision for family law reform. The study explores the implementation of mandatory mediation as the first step in resolving matrimonial

disputes, emphasizing reconciliation over confrontation and understanding over litigation.

Through this research, Sahil Kapoor aims to contribute to policy changes that make mediation an integral part of the Family Courts Act, providing a framework that is both empathetic and legally sound.

Achievements and Recognition

Over the years, Sahil Kapoor’s work has been recognized through various awards and accolades. He received the Gold Medal in LLM, First Rank in the Advanced Diploma in Family Dispute Resolution, and the Best Operations Team award at Walmart. He was also invited for a sponsored visit to the United States in 2011 to study advanced

mediation practices.

He has published research in the International Journal of Dispute Resolution and authored several e-books on matrimonial dispute resolution. Additionally, Sahil Kapoor has been featured by Entrepreneurs of India for his contributions to legal and social reforms. His expertise has also been recognized through invitations as a judge for

national mediation competitions organized by ILSCA Pune and Maharaja Agrasen Institute, Delhi.
