Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has been thrust into the spotlight following allegations surrounding a recent renovation project. Sukanta Mazumdar, the Bengal BJP chief, has claimed that the former principal of the institution, Sandip Ghosh, ordered renovations near the seminar hall where a doctor was found raped and murdered.
According to Mazumdar, Sandip Ghosh signed an order for the renovation just one day after the brutal murder of the victim. The order, dated August 10, instructed the executive engineers to address deficiencies in the doctors’ rooms and attached toilets. The memo reportedly emphasized the urgency of the repairs based on discussions with health department officials.
The timing of the renovation has sparked concerns and accusations from the BJP-led opposition, who suggest that it might have been an attempt to tamper with the crime scene. This controversy intensified when the police commissioner reportedly denied any evidence tampering.
Adding to the scrutiny, the victim’s family has alleged that the hospital initially misrepresented the cause of death as suicide. They also reported being kept waiting for over three hours before being allowed to see the body.
As the investigation continues, questions remain about the actions taken by hospital authorities and the integrity of the crime scene.
