Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar has issued a 15-day deadline for the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to repair all potholes in the city. He stated that after this period, he would personally inspect the city and urged officials to address the damaged roads promptly.
Shivakumar informed reporters that he instructed the BBMP commissioner to complete the pothole repairs within 15 days. The civic body identified 2,795 potholes across Bengaluru, which will be repaired at a cost of ₹660 crore. He noted that compared to previous years, the impact of rain on residents has been less severe.
CM DK Shivakumar also encouraged residents to report potholes using the Raste Gundi Gamana app so that the BBMP could address them promptly. He emphasized that he would personally monitor the progress by touring the city after 15 days.
This directive follows a request from the Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA), which urged the Karnataka government to improve road conditions, particularly along the IT corridor. In a letter to the government, ORRCA highlighted the urgent need for road repairs, pothole filling, waterlogging solutions, and maintenance of footpaths and service roads on the Outer Ring Road.
Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road, home to numerous IT companies, has been plagued by issues such as waterlogging, flooding, and traffic congestion in recent years. Despite repeated requests from organizations, these problems persist, especially during the monsoon season, when the roads become hazardous due to numerous potholes. Recent rains have exacerbated the situation, making commuting difficult for those traveling to work in the IT parks along the Outer Ring Road.
