Senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari stated on Wednesday that the party’s ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ slogan is unnecessary and should be replaced with ‘Jo hamare saath, hum unke saath’ (Those who are with us, we are with them). Speaking at the BJP’s state executive committee meeting in Kolkata, Adhikari, also the leader of the opposition in the West Bengal assembly, rejected the need for a minority morcha within the party.
Adhikari claimed that nationalist Muslims also deserve support and criticized the current slogan, suggesting a shift in focus to supporting those who support the party. He alleged that Hindus were prevented from voting in recent elections by goons from the ruling TMC, accusing them of obstructing free and fair elections.
Following controversy over his remarks, Suvendu Adhikari clarified that his comments were taken out of context and emphasized his commitment to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s slogan ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas, Sabka Prayas’. He stressed unity and nationalism, rejecting division based on majority and minority.
The meeting, attended by senior BJP leaders including Union ministers and former lawmakers, took place after the party’s recent electoral defeats in the state. TMC lawmaker Santanu Sen responded by saying the BJP is experiencing internal conflicts and political bankruptcy following its losses.
