MS Dhoni also known as ‘Captain Cool’ by his fans, is a man who is often viewed as someone who keeps his emotions in check. Dhoni rarely loses his cool on the field, no matter how tense the situation is. On the field, MS Dhoni is a challenging player to predict due to his emotionally impenetrable personality. Harbhajan Singh, a former teammate of Dhoni’s from India and the Chennai Super Kings, has admitted that there was a time when Dhoni broke down in tears in front of his CSK teammates.
Harbhajan revealed in a video shared by Star Sports that the incident occurred in 2018 when CSK was making their return to the IPL after being suspended for two seasons for their alleged involvement in the IPL betting scandal.
Former CSK spinner Imran Tahir joined Harbhajan and confirmed the story, saying it was at that point that he realized how close the team was to MS Dhoni.
“I have a story I’d like to tell you. There was a team dinner in 2018 when CSK returned to this league after a two-year absence. I’ve heard the expression ‘Men don’t cry,’ but MS Dhoni cried that night. He became tearful. I believe no one is aware of this. Right, Imran (Tahir)?”
“Yes, of course,” Tahir replied. “I was there as well.” For him (MS Dhoni), it was a very emotional moment. Looking at him like that, I realized how important this team is to him. He considers his teammates to be his family. It was an emotional experience for all of us.”
The South African cricketer even stated that it was a proud victory for him and the team after being labeled as ‘too old’ by experts.
“We won the trophy after returning after a two-year absence. Even though I was on the team that season, we won the championship despite people labelling us as “old men” or “Buddha.” That victory makes me very proud, Tahir added.
