Amritpal Singh, 29, married UK-based NRI Kirandeep Kaur in February this year, according to reports. The ceremony took place in Amritsar’s ancestral village of Jallupur Khera. After his wedding, Amritpal Singh stated that his wife would remain in Punjab with him because this marriage was a message for reverse migration, and they want all Punjabi migrants to return to the state.
The wife of radical Sikh leader Amritpal Singh, Kirandeep Kaur, was stopped by the Punjab Police at Shri Guru Ram Dass International Airport as she attempted to board a flight to London, according to Punjab police sources. Amritpal Singh, the chief of Khalistan-supporting Waris Punjab De, has been missing since March 18, when the Punjab Police launched a massive crackdown on him and his organization, arresting several workers associated with the organization, which was founded by late Punjabi singer Deep Sidhu.
A senior police official confirmed the development on Thursday, adding that a LOC had been issued against Kirandeep Kaur. According to Punjab Police sources, she was denied entry into the airport on Thursday as she arrived for the flight from Amritsar to London (Air India AI 169), which was scheduled to depart at 1:20 pm. She is currently being questioned only at the airport.
Kirandeep Kaur, Amritpal Singh’s wife, was on the police radar and was interrogated by cops after Amritpal went missing. Cops suspected Kirandeep of helping Waris Punjab De raise foreign funds. Kirandeep Kaur is an NRI who was born in Punjab but raised in the United Kingdom after her family relocated there. However, after marrying Amritpal Singh in February of this year, Kirandeep moved to Punjab to be with him.
Kirandeep and Amritpal met on social media, according to reports based on Kirandeep Kaur’s interviews with news outlets. In her interview, Kirandeep described Amritpal as a model husband.
Amritpal Singh issued several video messages to his followers from hiding, claiming that he had not absconded. There was widespread speculation that Amritpal would surrender around Baisakhi. Amritpal did not surrender, but his aide, mentor Papalpreet Singh, was apprehended. Joga Singh, another close aide of Amritpal, was also arrested.
