According to Indian cricket board secretary Jay Shah, the women’s cricket team will soon have a full-fledged support staff, including a head coach. Earlier this year, India’s women traveled to the T20 World Cup without a head coach.
On Tuesday, April 11, Indian cricket board (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah confirmed that the board would soon be sending out advertisements for various positions, including head coach, in the senior women’s cricket team’s support staff. The decision was made following a meeting of the BCCI’s Apex Council on Sunday.
The Indian women’s cricket team has been without a head coach since Ramesh Powar stepped down in December 2022, despite reaching the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup earlier this year. Powar was transferred to the National Cricket Academy, and NCA coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar took over as batting coach for the women’s team.
The Indian women’s team went to the World Cup without a head coach, but captain Harmanpreet Kaur was pleased with how Hrishikesh Kanitkar conducted himself during the global T20 tournament.
“We will soon post job openings for Team India (Senior Women) support staff.” “The best coaches will be brought in to help our players realize their full potential and achieve excellence on and off the field,” Jay Shah tweeted.
After failing to make the final of the ODI World Cup last year, India’s women reached the Commonwealth Games final in 2022 and won the Asia Cup title.
The BCCI also hosted the inaugural Women’s Premier League, which the Mumbai Indians won. A 5-team tournament held in two locations in Mumbai saw record turnouts.
Meanwhile, following a discussion at the Apex Council meeting, the BCCI announced the schedule for India’s domestic season 2023-24 on Tuesday.
