Chennai Super Kings IPL 2023 campaign began with a 5-wicket loss to the defending champions Gujarat Titans. They made a strong comeback in their next match, defeating Lucknow Super Giants by 12 runs. The team led by MS Dhoni will now face the Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday night. However, before the game, they fear a major setback as their star all-rounder Ben Stokes is reportedly set to miss 10 days due to injury.
According to The Indian Express, Stokes suffered heel pain after a CSK practice session at the Wankhede Stadium on the eve of the match against MI. The CSK medical team will assess the situation before making a final decision on the player, according to the statement.
Stokes has played in both of CSK’s IPL 2023 matches so far, but he has failed to impress with his performance in any of them.
CSK paid a whopping Rs 16.25 crore to acquire Stokes in the IPL auction 2023 bidding war. Ben Stokes’ bid equaled Chris Morris’ and made him the joint third-most expensive player in IPL auction history.
Meanwhile, Stokes surpassed Deepak Chahar as CSK’s most expensive IPL acquisition.
Record-breaking bids were placed in the 2023 IPL auction. England all-rounder Sam Curran became the most expensive player to be auctioned off in the IPL. The Punjab Kings signed him for a whopping Rs 18.50 crore.
