On Monday evening, a new incident of stone-pelting was reported in West Bengal’s Hooghly district, forcing the railways to suspend all local and mail express train services to and from Rishra railway station.
The incident occurred at Rishra station, according to Easter Railway chief public relations officer Kaushik Miron.
“Train movements over the Howrah-Bandel mainline section in both up and down direction had to be suspended from 22:06 hrs on 3.4.2023 due to a stone-throwing incident near level crossing gate no. 4 (spl) of Rishra (Shrirampur end”),” Miron said in a statement.
Miron, on the other hand, stated that when the situation improved, train services in the section resumed at 1.07 a.m.
“As a result of this, some local and long-distance trains were delayed en route for an extended period.” “Train service in the Howrah-Bandel and Howrah-Burdwan sections is now normal,” he added.
According to ANI, police and the rapid response force (RAF) have been deployed in the area to prevent any untoward incidents or violence.
Suvendu Adhikari, a BJP MLA, claimed in a tweet that “Rishra is burning” and that the entire state administration is on vacation in Digha.
“Stone pelting and bombing near Rishra Railway Station forced the suspension of Howrah-Bardhaman Line local and express train services.” Train services have now been restored following RPF action. “Rishra is on fire, and the entire State Administration is on vacation in Digha,” Adhikari tweeted.
