Mrs Chatterjee Vs Norway 2023 is a family legal drama film directed by Ashima Chibber and produced by Zee Studios and Emmay Entertainment in India. The film is based on the mother – Sagarika Chakraborty’s autobiography titled The Journey of a Mother, whose children were taken away from her by the Norwegian Childcare system (Barnevernet) in 2011. The movie was released on March 17, 2023.
The story is based on a true story about Sagarika Bhattacharya, who lived with her husband Anup Bhattacharya and their two children. They relocated to Norway in search of work. Barnevernet (also known as Norwegian Child Welfare Services) took their children away in 2011 on the grounds of child abuse.
They first attempted to appeal in a Norwegian court but were unsuccessful. They later requested intervention from the Ministry of External Affairs of the Government of India. Before this, Sagarika and her husband divorced, and custody of the children was given to their father’s brother. After a two-year legal battle, she was granted custody by the Calcutta High Court in 2013, following intervention by the Indian government.
