In preparation for the arrest of a radical preacher and Khalistan sympathiser Amritpal Singh, Punjab police detained six of his associates today and deployed heavy police force in the Moga district. According to sources, the state government waited until the G20 summit was over before taking action against Amritpal Singh.
Amritpal’s associates are being pursued by the Punjab Police. The police of several districts of Punjab are chasing Amritpal. To prevent rumours from spreading, the internet has also been shut down across the state, including Bathinda, Moga, Jalandhar, and Nabha. The police have also urged the public to keep the peace and cooperate. until 12pm tomorrow.
He leads “Waris Punjab De”, a radical organisation started by actor and activist Deep Sidhu, who died in a road accident in February last year.
The radical separatist leader is frequently accompanied by armed supporters. He has been active in Punjab for some time.
Amritpal Singh was at the centre of a large protest over the arrest of his key aide, kidnapping suspect Lovepreet Singh. He blamed the Punjab Police for the protest violence in Amritsar.
