Indian Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah will be out of the Indian Premier League (IPL), which will take place in April-May, this will be a major blow to Mumbai Indians.
To treat a stress reaction in his lower back, the 29-year-old cricketer Jasprit Bumrah from India has spent a considerable amount of time in rehabilitation. To have him ready for the World Test Championship final in June and the ODI World Cup, which India will host in October-November, the BCCI medical team has now decided not to risk his recovery.
According to sources, Bumrah’s goal was to play in the second half of the IPL. He was expected to play for Reliance 1 in the DY Patil T20 Cup, which was held last week in Navi Mumbai, as a first step toward his return. However, due to a recurring niggle, it was decided to postpone his return.
It’s been a frustrating wait for the star pacer, who last played for India on September 25 in a T20I against Australia. He had been receiving rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru since November and had resumed bowling in the nets by mid-December. However, he is currently on leave in Mumbai while medical experts assess how best to plan his recovery.
Bumrah was given the option of undergoing surgery after a lengthy period of rehabilitation. The bowler is said to be uninterested because the surgery is not required, unlike in the case of a fracture. If Bumrah has surgery, he will be out for at least three months, potentially ruling him out of the World Cup.
Bumrah has only played two T20Is since suffering a back injury last August, both against Australia in late September. He has been absent from several major events, including the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup, as well as the ongoing Test series against Australia.
