In 2013, Arvind Kejriwal posted a question on Twitter asking the public if ministers should be imprisoned for corruption or forced to resign. Amit Malviya of the BJP revived the old tweet in jest and said, “AAP leaders chose the second option — sent to jail for corruption.” Ten years later, two AAP leaders, Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, are in jail on corruption-related charges. In anticipation of the investigation into them, both Jain and Sisodia resigned from their ministerial positions on Tuesday.
The CBI arrested Sisodia on Sunday after questioning him for 8.5 hours in the Delhi liquor policy case. Jain resigned on Tuesday, but he has been in jail since May of last year in connection with a money laundering case. Jain has found himself in yet another controversy after videos of him receiving special treatment in his cell surfaced. The ministries of Sisodia and Jain have been assigned to Kailash Gahlot and Raaj Kumar. Sisodia was handling 18 departments of the Delhi government.
Malviya blamed Kejriwal for the alleged scams, claiming that Kejriwal forced his ministers to do illegal things in order for them to go to jail. “Manish Sisodia’s imprisonment should serve as a wake-up call for AAP members. Kejriwal has no portfolio, but he makes his ministers do illegal things so that they are the ones who go to jail when the law catches up with them. Sisodia has to suffer because he was unable to save Satyendra. But, as CM, he is ultimately responsible “Malviya used Twitter.
“Satyendra Jain has been imprisoned for nearly nine months. Kejriwal would have had to hold the next cabinet meeting in Tihar if Sisodia was also imprisoned. Kejriwal, perhaps embarrassed by the prospect and left with no choice, finally accepts their resignation. It’s too little, too late “Malviya went on to say.
