When Shahid Kapoor gatecrashed a screening of his film Jab We Met in Mumbai on Thursday evening, he surprised fans. The iconic film was re-released on Valentine’s Day and has played to sold-out audiences across the country. Shahid appeared pleased to see fans enjoying the film and took the time to shake hands with a few of them in the theater.
PVR Cinemas has featured a week-long Valentine’s Week celebration with re-releases of some great films. The unique film festival began on February 10 and ran until February 16, during which time numerous popular films were re-released in theaters. Titanic (English), Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Jab We Met, Tamasha, Ticket to Paradise (English), Vinnaithaandi Varuvaayaa (Tamil), Ved (Marathi), Geetha Govindam (Telugu), Googly (Kannada), Love Ni Bhavai (Gujarati), and Hridayam (Malayalam) were among the titles.
Jab We Met, directed by Imtiaz Ali and released 16 years ago, has become one of Bollywood’s most cherished films. Fans were overjoyed to see Shahid in the theater as the film’s end credits played the hit song ‘Mauja hi Mauja.’
Shahid took to Instagram to show a video of himself entering a packed theater and smiling as he waves to everyone. He wrote in the caption, “Jab We Met 16 Years Later.” For the occasion, the actor wore a white patterned shirt.
Shahid appeared in the 2007 film alongside Kareena Kapoor. He played Aditya, a calm businessman who is contemplating suicide after a breakup and meets the lively Geet, who transforms his outlook on life. This was the fourth time the actors had worked together. They were dating while filming but split up before the film’s release. The director’s initial selections for the film were Preity Zinta and Bobby Deol.
Tarun Arora, Saumya Tandon, Dara Singh, and Pavan Malhotra also appeared in the film Jab We Met, which was released in theaters on October 26, 2007. Kareena was awarded “ Best Actress” by Filmfare, and Shahid was nominated for Best Actor. Later, the Hindi film was remade in Tamil and Telugu. Shahid was most recently seen in Farzi, which was released on Amazon Prime Video last week.
