Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday that the President conveyed the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat,’ or developed India, in her address to both Houses of Parliament, amid sloganeering from Opposition MPs in Rajya Sabha over the dispute tied to billionaire Gautam Adani.
As PM Modi attempted to respond to the Motion of Thanks on the President’s address, opposition lawmakers poured into the Well of the House, demanding that the Adani Group be investigated by a Joint Parliamentary Committee.
PM Modi stated that the more “keechad” (dirt) they toss, the larger the “kamal” (locus) will bloom, adding that some members of the House’s language and behavior are disheartening for India.
“Keechad unke paas tha, mere pass gulaal. jo jis ke paas tha, Usne uchaal diya , “In response to the allegations leveled against him and his government by opposition parties, Modi quoted Manik Verma’s poetry.
Roughly translated, it implies they had dirt and I had ‘gulal,’ whoever had whatever they tossed in the air.
The prime minister criticized Congress for impeding growth throughout its tenure, claiming that India squandered six decades while smaller countries advanced.
“They (Congress) had the obligation to provide solutions when residents faced challenges, but their priority and motive were different,” PM Modi stated. “We are working to develop long-term answers to the problems that citizens have experienced.”
“Congress could have tried to construct a foundation, as indicated by Kharge ji, but they just dug holes during their term,” he remarked of the grand old party and the leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha.
Modi outlined his administration’s accomplishments, which ranged from eliminating the waiting period for cooking gas to opening bank accounts for everyone and providing electrical connections.
“In the previous 3-4 years, almost 11 crore homes have received tap water connections. In terms of common people empowerment, we launched the Jan Dhan account movement. “48 crore Jan Dhan accounts have been opened across the country in the last nine years,” he added.
Throughout his speech, opposition MPs chanted slogans tying the prime minister to Adani and demanding a JPC investigation into claims made by US short-seller Hindenburg Research.
The Rajya Sabha debate on the motion of thanks to the President’s Address finished on Wednesday.
