New Delhi: On Thursday, two unique rocks from which the idols of Lord Ram and Goddess Janaki will be sculpted and put in the sanctum sanctorum of Ram Temple arrived in Uttar Pradesh’s Ayodhya from Nepal (February 2, 2023). Rajendra Singh Pankaj, national secretary of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, carried two precious rocks from Nepal’s Mustang district.
These Shaligram rocks, which are said to be 60 million years old, were transported to Ayodhya by two separate trucks from Nepal. One rock is said to weigh 26 tonnes, while the other is 14 tonnes.
The holy stones were welcomed at the birthplace of the Hindu god Lord Ram by priests and locals who decorated the boulders with garlands and performed rituals before handing them over to the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust.
Shaligram rocks which will be used to build Ram and Janaki idols were discovered in the Gandaki river.
The carved stone idol of Lord Rama in his kid form will be put in the sanctum sanctorum of the Ram Temple, which is slated to be completed by the Makar Sankranti festival in January next year, according to officials.
According to the researchers, the two rocks were discovered in the Gandaki River near Saligrama or Muktinath (place of salvation) in Nepal’s Mustang area.
“In Nepal, there is a waterfall known as the Kali Gandaki. It flows from Damodar Kund and is located about 85 kilometers north of Ganeshwar Dham Gandki. Both of these boulders were brought from there. The location is at a height of 6,000 feet above sea level “According to Champat Rai, the General Secretary of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra.
However, a two-day meeting of the Ram Temple’s building construction committee began on Saturday in Ayodhya.
The meeting was presided over by Nripendra Mishra, head of the building committee, and was attended by Trust Secretary Champat Rai and Trustee Anil Mishra.
According to the sources, the temple construction progress was evaluated, and discussions were held about the installation and carving of the Lord’s new idol.
