Prime Minister Narendra Modi has accepted the Dawoodi Bohra community’s invitation to the opening ceremony of the fourth campus of their Arabic academy in Marol on February 10.
Aljamea-tus-Saifiyah, Arabic Academy (also known as Jamea) is a premier educational institute of the Dawoodi Bohra community, whose sole benefactor is the community’s leader, Syedna Mufaddal Saifuddin, the 53rd al-Dai al-Mutlaq.
“It is considered to be a prestigious academy in the community, and I studied there,” said Alefiya Murtaza, a former student of the academy. Many people from all around the world come to Jamea for the written exam.”
This will be the academy’s new campus, which PM Modi will inaugurate in Marol. The original campus is located in Surat, Gujarat.
According to Alefiya, the academy provides a well-rounded education through a variety of subjects.
“The teachings of our Syednas help us to serve our community and others as well, not just people but also our environment. “We prepare for leadership positions, which is an important part of our education here,” she added.
The Arabic academy offers a wide range of subjects to students, including Islamic studies, Arabic and English literature, as well as secondary and higher secondary levels, followed by graduate and post-graduate levels.
Jamea, which was founded over two centuries ago in Surat in 1810, seeks to prepare young Dawoodi Bohra men and women for positions of leadership within society: global citizens dedicated to serving others and committed to acting in accordance with the values, principles, and ideals instilled in them during their education.
Throughout its history, Jamea has hosted a number of high-profile guests and dignitaries, including several heads of state.
During his first visit to Gujarat as Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru visited the Surat campus in 1960. “I hope that this academy will continue not only to teach the wisdom and culture of the past but also the wisdom and achievements of the present age,” he wrote on the occasion of the inauguration of new facilities the following year.
President of Pakistan Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq launched the Karachi campus in 1983, and President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta inaugurated the third Jamea campus in Nairobi, Kenya’s capital city, in 2017.
Given the academy’s illustrious history and prominent status within the Dawoodi Bohra community, Prime Minister Modi was invited to the official opening of the fourth campus in Marol.
