Kuldeep Yadav, a left-arm wrist spinner, has been added to India’s squad for the third One-Day International against Bangladesh on Saturday. Three Indian cricketers, including captain Rohit Sharma, were ruled out of the final match of the series due to injuries. In Rohit’s absence, India will be led by vice-captain KL Rahul.
Kuldeep returned to the Indian limited-overs setup for the New Zealand tour but did not play a single match in the T20I and ODI series. Kuldeep was supposed to join the Indian squad in Bangladesh ahead of the Test series, but he will now arrive earlier and is expected to play the third match.
Meanwhile, the BCCI has stated that a decision on captain Rohit’s availability for the two-match Test series will be made later.
“Rohit sustained a thumb injury while fielding in the second ODI in the second over.” The BCCI Medical Team evaluated him, and he underwent scans at a local Dhaka hospital. He has flown to Mumbai for medical advice and will miss the final ODI. “A decision on his availability for the upcoming Test series will be made later,” said the BCCI.
Kuldeep Sen, who made his debut in the series opener in Mirpur, has a stress injury, while Chahar has a hamstring strain again.
“After the first ODI, fast bowler Kuldeep Sen complained of back stiffness.” The BCCI medical team examined him and advised him to sit out the second ODI. Kuldeep has a stress injury and will miss the rest of the series. Deepak Chahar, another fast bowler, suffered a left hamstring strain during the second ODI and is also out of the series. Both Kuldeep and Deepak will now report to NCA for further treatment of their injuries,” according to the release.
Without mentioning Chahar by name, Rohit expressed his displeasure with the NCA’s role following repeated injuries to players following the second ODI.
After losing the series, India will look to end the series on a high note by winning the final ODI and going into the Test series with confidence.
India’s revised squad for the third One-Day International against Bangladesh is as follows: KL Rahul (C) (WK), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, Shreyas Iyer, Rahul Tripathi, Ishan Kishan (WK), Shahbaz Ahmed, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Siraj, Umran Malik, Kuldeep Yadav.
