Namdeo Das Tyagi, also known as ‘Computer Baba,’ joined the Congress’ Bharat Jodo Yatra on Saturday morning as the foot march resumed from Madhya Pradesh’s Mahudiya. Kamal Nath, a senior leader and former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, also joined the march on foot.
A video tweeted by the news agency ANI showed Gandhi walking alongside Baba, who was dressed in white clothes and had turmeric and white ‘tika’ smeared across his forehead. Tyagi is a Hindu ascetic and environmentalist from India; he was previously appointed as a minister by the Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in 2018.
On Saturday, the 87th day of the yatra, the Rahul Gandhi-led Bharat Jodo resumed its journey from the Agar Malwa district. It started around 6 a.m. at the bus stop in Mahudiya village, Agar Malwa. T M Krishna, a noted music composer, is also expected to participate in the 3,570 km-long foot march, according to the news agency PTI.
The yatra began on September 7 in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, and has since traveled through the southern states of Kerala, Karnataka, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh.
According to the Congress’s earlier announcement, the foot march will cover a distance of 380 kilometers in the Malwa-Nimar region of western Madhya Pradesh in 12 days before entering Rajasthan on December 4.
The march entered Madhya Pradesh from neighboring Maharashtra on November 23 in the Burhanpur district. It has so far passed through the districts of Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Indore, and Ujjain in the state, and is currently passing through Agar Malwa, where it arrived on Friday.
