
Malaika Arora recalled working on Chaiyya Chaiyya, a scene from Mani Ratnam’s 1998 film Dil Se. Shah Rukh Khan and Malaika Arora danced on a moving train in the iconic song. Malaika revealed in a new interview that Shah Rukh was worried about her during the shoot and that she was tied to the train with a harness for protection.
Previously, during a 2017 interview, Shah Rukh, who played the lead role in the film co-starring Manisha Koirala and Preity Zinta, spoke about shooting Chaiyya Chaiyya, and said that filming on a moving train was very scary.’ He revealed that the dancers were tied to the train for protection while filming the song. Shah Rukh also stated that he was left free to jump and whirl in the dance sequences.
In a recent interview with Bollywood Bubble, Malaika recalled the Chaiyya Chaiyya shoot, saying, “He (Shah Rukh Khan) insisted that I be (on harness) because he was worried that I would fly off the train.” And then we said no because it is difficult to dance with one part of your body harnessed and tied like that. But we did it.”
Dil Se, starring Shah Rukh Khan, featured a number of songs, one of which was Chhaiya Chhaiya. Sukhwinder Singh and Sapna Awasthi performed Chaiyya Chaiyya, which was choreographed by Farah Khan. That year, she won the Filmfare Award for best choreography for the song.
AR Rahman composed and Gulzar wrote Chhaiya Chhaiya. Malaika stated in a 2020 interview that Chaiyya Chaiyya should not be recreated and should never be touched because it was ‘iconic.’
