What are the lessons from the challenges Shikhi Sharma has faced and how did she overcome them?
Her second novel, ‘Unbeatable’, was published. It was a true story of a boy who was suffering from cerebral palsy and dyslexia. But with his family’s support and help, he fights all the odds and clears his NET JRF examination. Through her book, she has tried to send a very important message to society about accepting disabled and differently-abled people. If given a chance, they can do wonders. We just need to accept them as a normal part of our society. She was invited as a speaker at the “Ahmedabad International Literature Festival” to raise awareness about gender discrimination in kids. Our society is ready to accept a disabled child in the case of a male child, while a disabled female is looked down upon. Their safety becomes a major issue for the parents as these kids are not able to defend themselves easily. This is something that we, as a society, have to raise awareness about.
Mention some of the principles she lives by and would advise others to follow…
Of course, it is hard; it is supposed to be hard.
If it was easy, everybody would do it.
Hard is what makes it great.
